Rhodes State College Strengthens Esports Program Through NJCAAE Membership

LIMA, Ohio April 17, 2025 – Rhodes State College has officially joined the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE), further advancing its efforts to provide students with access to competitive, organized esports opportunities at the collegiate level.

This membership marks a significant development in the college’s esports program, enabling participation in national tournaments and competitions across a variety of popular game titles, including Rocket League, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Valorant. Through the NJCAAE, Rhodes State students will now be part of a nationwide network of two-year colleges focused on competitive gaming, professional development, and academic achievement.

“As a member of the NJCAAE, we are able to provide our students with valuable opportunities for collaboration, competition, and skill-building in one of today’s most rapidly expanding industries,” said Skylar Shaffer, Coordinator, Student Communications and Esports at Rhodes State College. “This affiliation not only elevates our current program but also helps us connect with students who are passionate about both technology and teamwork.”

Dr. Brendan Greaney, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, emphasized the broader impact of the partnership: “Esports is more than just gaming—it’s about building community, encouraging leadership, and engaging students in new and meaningful ways. Our membership in the NJCAAE allows us to meet students where they are and support their success both inside and outside the classroom.”

The esports program at Rhodes State is designed to provide a well-rounded experience that integrates academic support, structured training, and competitive play. By joining the NJCAAE, Rhodes State affirms its commitment to supporting student interests while aligning with broader trends in higher education and digital engagement.
