Rhodes State College is offering Entry-level Basic Machining and CNC Machine Course Free to Lima City Residents

LIMA, Ohio,  February 25, 2021  – Manufacturers in Lima and the surrounding area reported strong demand for skilled employees in several areas of manufacturing, including CNC operations. Review of Northwest Ohio Region employment projections for 2016-2026, as reported in the Ohio Labor Market Information, demand for machinists will increase by 4.5 percent, computer controlled machine operators will increase by 3.7 percent, and computer controlled programmers will increase by 17.7 percent.

Rhodes State College is offering a training course providing students with the fundamentals of manual machining along with an introduction into working with and programming computer controlled (CNC) equipment. This course is free and open to Lima City residents 18 an older.  The course will incorporate 42 hours of classroom/lab training and 33 hours of on-line training through Tooling U. Completing this course will provide students the opportunity to enter the manufacturing environment at an entry level.

Upon course completion, there is an opportunity for the students to sit for the two NIMS exams in order to obtain credentials in measurement, materials & safety, and job planning, bench work & layout. The course will be developed based on the NIMS exam guidelines.

This FREE course is open to Lima City residents 18 and older. To join this class, students must have access to the internet.  Classes will be held March 9 — April 16, 2021, Tuesday 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; and Thursday 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Registration Deadline is March 5, 2021.  To register, please contact Lew Modic at modic.l@rhodesstate.edu for details.
