Rhodes State Set to Distribute Choose Ohio First Funds

LIMA, Ohio, July 14, 2020 - Rhodes State College received Choose Ohio First Grant funding through the State of Ohio to offer full- and part-time students scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year that starts in August. The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program is part of Ohio’s strategic effort to strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness within the Computer Science and STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) industries.

Rhodes State College majors that qualify for this scholarship include Digital Media Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Network Security, Medical Assisting Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Care Technology, and Web/Computer Programming Technology.

The annual Scholarship will help students defray tuition, fees (other than lab fees) and required books not covered by other scholarships and/or financial aid. Scholarships start out at least $1,500 per year, but awards are based on student’s need.

To be eligible for this Scholarship students will be required to declare a major in one of Rhodes’ eligible STEMM majors. Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a resident of Ohio; maintain at least part-time status (6 credit hours); have a cumulative high school/college GPA of at least 3.0; a composite ACT score of at least 21 or placement test scores that show college ready status; complete the FAFSA; and fill out the online Choose Ohio First Scholarship Application. Additional requirements include: submitting a Choose Ohio First essay titled, “Why I am interested in a STEMM discipline.”
