Career Opportunities

The graduate of this certificate will be able to gain employment as a PCT and/or will be able to jump-start into a health career pathway.

PCTs may perform the following tasks:

  • Provide bedside patient care
  • Distribute and administer patient care supplies
  • Perform safety checks and ensure cleanliness in patient rooms
  • Complete documentation about patient condition, including their vital signs, mood, appetite, and any pain they are experiencing.
  • Monitor a patient’s blood pressure, heart rate and pulse on a routine basis
  • Escort patients to X-rays and other diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Change patient bandages and clean affected areas

Program Highlights

The PCT Certificate can be bundled with other health science certificates to fulfill the requirements of Rhodes State College’s Associate Degree Program in Health Care Technology. Special sessions at the end of the certificate program will be devoted to career counseling and transitioning students into desired career pathways in the health care industry. All of the coursework can be taken online except for the Patient Care Technician labs.

  • Rhodes State College has secured partnerships with Lima Memorial Health System and Mercy Health St. Rita’s to provide experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • This multi-skilled entry-level position is ideal for students seeking immediate employment in the health care field.

Real-World Experience

Students will complete a total of eight hours of observation/job shadowing dispersed between the two major hospitals.
