Rhodes State College Joins #CCMonth Campaign to Draw Attention to the “Community” in Community College

Rhodes State College announced today that it will join #CCMonth, a month-long campaign focusing on the positive advantages of community colleges coordinated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).  The primary goals of #CCMonth are to improve awareness of the economic, academic and equity advantages of attending community colleges, and celebrate the quality of education leading to career and pathway opportunities associated with public two-year colleges.

“The past year has proved beyond any doubt that our College is absolutely vital to our community and our state,” said Dr. Cynthia E. Spiers, President of Rhodes State College. “#CCMonth is an opportunity to reach out into both to demonstrate that community colleges are now becoming the first college of choice because we are more affordable and play a crucial role in workforce development and our economies.”

Public community colleges are a uniquely American educational model that was designed to guarantee access to affordable, high-quality higher education for all.  They are the primary educators of life-saving nurses, first-responders, and other healthcare professionals.  Additionally, they are trainers for those in business, public service, advanced manufacturing including programs in artificial intelligence, robotics and Industry 4.0.  Community colleges serve as an onramp to bachelor’s, master’s and higher-level degrees for many students and particularly for the most demographically and socioeconomically diverse students.  Guaranteeing fair admissions for all, community colleges support adult students who have families and/or need to work. Without community colleges, many students would not be able to access higher education.

“In short, two-year colleges, like Rhodes State College, were created to serve the needs of their communities, and we have proven that we do it exceptionally well,” added Spiers.
