Rhodes State launches Surgical Technology Associate Degree

Rhodes State College has responded to the need of local hospitals and the surrounding medical community by offering an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology. This program is being offered in the Fall of 2022 and is currently accepting students for the inaugural cohort.

With requests from both Mercy Health St. Rita’s and Lima Memorial Health Systems to create a program to train surgical technologists in the region, Rhodes State College is currently seeking accreditation from the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).

Surgical Technologists work alongside surgeons to assist them during the surgery and are known as the unsung heroes of the operating room. This 62 credit hour degree includes courses in surgical theory, procedures and practice, along with 675 clinical hours, spanning across 3 semesters, progressing from preoperative through postoperative case management, addressing both general surgery and the required specialty surgical procedures. Students will receive hands on labs in our state-of-the-art operating room setting to assist them in real world experience.
