Rhodes State WDI Offering FREE CNC Training to Lima Residents

According to Lima manufacturers and the Northwest Ohio Region Labor Market, there is a high demand for skilled CNC operators and machinists. The Workforce Development and Innovation (WDI) team at Rhodes State College is responding by offering a free entry level course in Basic Machining and CNC Machine Operation to Lima City Residents.

This training will provide individuals with the fundamentals of manual machining along with an introduction into working with and programming computer controlled (CNC) equipment. The course incorporates 42 hours of classroom/lab training with 33 hours of online training through ToolingU. Completing this course will provide students the opportunity to enter the manufacturing environment at an entry level.

This FREE course is open to Lima City residents 18 and older. To join this class, you must have access to the internet.

Classes will be held March 15-April 20, 2022 on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The registration deadline is March 8, 2022. To register, please contact Lew Modic at modic.l@rhodesstate.edu.

This Basic Machining/CNC training program include:

·         Demonstrate use of machine safety and personal protective equipment (PPE)

·         Use calipers, dimensional metrology, precision measurement tools

·         Inspect materials and parts

·         Plan job and prepare for production

·         Load parts, follow a set up sheet

·         Maintain milling/turning equipment

·         Operate presses, grinders, hones

·         Perform bench work - deburr, clean, prep parts for next operation

·         Learn programming and operation of CNC equipment

Upon completion of the course, students have the opportunity to sit for two NIMS exams in order to obtain credentials in Measurement, Materials & Safety, and Job Planning, Bench work & Layout. Within the next step in this career pathway, students may choose to pursue employment and/or additional Rhodes State courses related to CNC machining.
