CoARC Reaffirms Accreditation of Rhodes State College Respiratory Therapist Program

The Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Care (CoARC) reaffirmed the accreditation of the Respiratory Therapist program at Rhodes State College. Since its inception in 1980, the Respiratory Therapist program has been accredited by CoARC with the next accreditation review scheduled for March of 2024.

This past fall, Rhodes State Respiratory Care program was recognized by CoARC with the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award. This award is presented as recognition of the program’s success and effectiveness in inspiring its graduates to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought Respiratory Therapist to the forefront of the crisis and Rhodes is proud to have so many alumni serving our community. Respiratory Therapists are instrumental in the health field as they assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of lung and breathing disorders. These tasks include administering medical gases, breathing tests, medications by inhalation and drawing of blood for analysis. Knowledge of special life-support equipment and methods of monitoring the critically-ill patients are required of respiratory care practitioners. Individuals educated as respiratory therapists must complete a minimum of two years of education. Upon completing the minimum education, graduates are eligible to sit for national board examinations to become a certified respiratory therapist (CRT) and then a registered respiratory therapist (advanced level).
