The 2022 Commencement will be held in person with two ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center, 7 Town Square, Lima on Saturday, May 7, 2022.  The time and majors for each ceremony are outlined below.  Students must only attend the ceremony where their major is being recognized.

  • 10:00am for Nursing, Engineering Technology, Information Technology
  • 1:00pm for Allied Health, Business, Public Service, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Technical Studies

Honoring Veterans

Rhodes State will recognize graduates who are serving or have served in the U.S. military. To receive the red, white and blue cord, email your DD214 or Nobe to Alissa Zimmerman at zimmerman.a@RhodesState.edu.

Graduating with Honors

Honor graduates received a gold-colored honor cord at the Academic Awards Ceremony in March to wear at Graduation. Academic awards are based upon the following GPA as of the end of Fall Semester.
  • 3.50 to 3.94 – Gold Honors Cord
  • 3.95 and above - Medallion

Downtown Lima Construction

Market St. between Elizabeth St. and Central Ave. will see traffic impacts due to construction on the new roundabout in downtown Lima.  The project will be constructed in phases. Phase 1 started April 4 and is anticipated to last 45 days. It will include:

  • Closure of the 100 block of South Main St.
  • Lane restrictions along Market St. between Elizabeth St. and Union St.

Estimated completion date for all phases of the project is late November 2022.  Click here for additional information.

 

  • Doors to the auditorium will open:
    • 8:30 am for the 10am ceremony
    • 11:30 am for the 1pm ceremony
  • Wheelchair seating is available in the designated area at the back of the auditorium.
  • A sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired is provided.
  • Although the length of the ceremony varies with the number of graduates, it is best to plan for at least 1-1/2 hours. Guests are asked to respect the graduates and stay for the entire ceremony.
  • Students are able to bring up to 8 guests to the ceremony
  • Tickets are not being issued for this event and guests must be in their seats 15 minutes prior to the ceremony starting.
  • Doors to the auditorium open at:
    • 8:30 am for the 10am ceremony. Guests must be seated by 9:45 am. 
    • 11:30 am for the 1pm ceremony. Guests must be seated by 12:45 pm. 
    • Once the processional begins, guests are not permitted in the auditorium lobby until the processional has ended.
  • Free parking is available in Borra Center parking lot.
  • For a fee, parking is also available in the parking garage, located on the corner of Market and Elizabeth Streets, with a skywalk connected to the Civic Center. 
  • For a fee, parking is also available in the parking lot at Allen County Children Services, on the corner of Market and Spring streets.  
  • PLEASE NOTE: Alter Ego Comics will also be hosting their annual Free Comic Book Day on May 7 from 9am-5pm.  One block of Main Street will be blocked off between North and High Streets during this time.  Please allow extra time to find parking for the graduation ceremony.
  • Can I attend either ceremony? Unfortunately, no; you must attend the ceremony where your major is being recognized.
  • How long is graduation? 1 to 1-1/2 hours depending on the number of graduates.
  • How to view the ceremony? The ceremonies will be streamed live.  More details coming soon. 
  • Where do I get my cap and gown? The Campus Bookstore.  The cost is $54 and will be available for purchase on 3/28/2022. 
  • What color tassel should I buy?
    • Colors of tassels are as follows:
      • Agriculture Technology - Maize
      • Allied Health – Green
      • Associate of Arts – White
      • Associate of Science – Golden Yellow
      • Business Professions – Drab
      • Early Childhood Education – Light Blue
      • Engineering Technology – Orange
      • Human Services – Citron
      • Information Technology/Office Administration – Drab
      • Nursing – Apricot
  • My guest is in a wheelchair. Are their special accommodations available?  Wheelchair seating for guests is available in the designated area at the back of the auditorium.  Make sure anyone needing extra time to be seated arrives when the doors open.  A sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired is provided.
  • When do I get my diploma? Your diploma will be mailed after grades are processed to your address on file.  Please make sure your address is current by viewing in STARS.  If not, submit an address change in STARS.
  • Can I bring my purse, coat, personal items? The Civic Center does not provide storage.  Graduates should leave personal items with guests.
  • I’m not going to graduate but I’ve already petitioned for Spring Semester. What do I do?  See the Registration & Records Office, registrar@rhodesstate.edu, 419-995-8425, Public Service Building Rm 120.
