Human Service Overview

Students in the Human Service program become Social Work Assistants and Human Service Professionals who have specialized training to help individuals and communities facing challenges.  Human Services is a broad field that can lead to a variety of fulfilling career destinations such as mental health centers, addiction centers, community service centers, elderly services, correctional facilities, and many more.

The Human Service program at Rhodes State is one of only three associate degree programs in Ohio accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Service Education. The program requires two fieldwork practicums for entrance into the profession and/or for transfer into a bachelor’s degree social work program, and students have the option to take courses during the day or evening. Additionally, students have the option to earn Credit by Experience if they enter the program with work experience in Human Service.

Professional Licensure Information

Students may be eligible to apply to the Ohio Counselor, Social Work and Marriage and Family Therapist Board for the registration of Social Work Assistant (SWA).
