Dental Assisting Certificate Overview 

The Dental Assisting certificate program is designed for persons who want to gain dental health knowledge and skills such as taking x-rays, recordkeeping, and scheduling appointment. Students will also receive an introduction to working with dental materials. Those who successfully complete the curriculum will be competent in the technical, interpersonal, and management skills expected of a dental assistant.

Dental Assisting Certificate Highlights

Graduates of the Rhodes State College Dental Assisting Certificate Program will be prepared to:

  • Demonstrate entry-level competence necessary to provide dental assisting services to individuals of all ages and from any population,
  • Apply dental assisting knowledge in the provision of safe and effective dental assisting care within the scope of the Ohio Revised Code,
  • Exhibit professional conduct in dental assisting care and decision-making processes.
  • Assume the role of a dental assistant in clinical practice settings,
  • Engage in life-long learning through continued credit and non-credit education.

Career Opportunities 

Dental assistants can work in a number of different settings, including private general dentistry practices, the offices of dental specialists like orthodontists and oral surgeons, hospital dental clinics, and even as part of public health dentistry offering treatment for at-risk patients. Once a dental assistant has gained some experience, he/she may even find a successful career teaching in a vocational school or dental assisting program.
