Rhodes State College is proud to announce its Fall Quarter offerings held at the Putnam County Educational Service Center in Ottawa.  The following classes will be held September 22-December 11, 2010 (unless otherwise noted).

BHS-138, Introduction to Medical Terminology, 3 Credits, Mondays, 5:30-8:20 p.m.

This course introduces the student to the components of the language of medicine. Medical terms are identified using the basic elements of prefixes, suffixes, combining forms, root words, plural formations, and abbreviations. Correct spelling and pronunciation are reviewed in depth.  Creation and division of medical terms is stressed.

COM-098, Developmental Writing, 5 Credits, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8:00-10:20 a.m.   This course provides an introduction to writing at all levels (sentence, paragraph and essay) and to research methods and reinforces reading comprehension skills. This course does not count toward graduation. This is a credit course and will be counted in student’s grade point average; however, it will not count toward graduation requirements or as an elective substitute.

COM-111, English Composition 5 Credits, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.  Practice of sound organization and effective expression of ideas in original expository and argumentative compositions as well as the research paper. Extensive discussion of rhetorical modes and editing techniques.

CPT 104 PC Microcomputer Lab, 2 Credits, Wednesdays 10:30 a.m. -12:20 p.m. and also Wednesdays, 5:30 - 7:20 p.m.  This course is designed to teach students general computer terms and concepts. In addition, students will learn how to operate a microcomputer and to use the computers in the campus microcomputer labs. The students will learn about the Windows operating system and how to use a word processor (Microsoft Word) and an electronic spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel). Some keyboard experience is recommended.

MTH-030 Pre-Algebra, 5 Credits, Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00 - 10:20 a.m. Basic concepts in arithmetic through beginning algebra will be covered. Topics include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, percents, measurement and measurement conversions, signed numbers, and linear equations. This is a credit course and will be counted in student’s grade point average. However, it will not count toward graduation requirements or as an elective substitute. SDE-101 First Year Experience, 1 Credit, Tuesdays, 5:30 - 7:20 p.m.  An introduction to Rhodes State College with emphasis on assessment and development of the academic, interpersonal and life management skills necessary to function within the college environment and a global society.
