Phlebotomy Certificate

Phlebotomy

This certificate program is designed to provide expertise in the practice of phlebotomy. Students will gain didactic knowledge and clinical practice experiences and will be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) examination for a nationally recognized credential in phlebotomy.

In addition to the general admission requirements for all students, the following specific requirements have been established for Phlebotomy Certificate students:

  1. In order to succeed in a modern healthcare environment, students must have basic computer skills prior to admission to their certificate courses. This can be satisfied through high school experiences, life experiences or completion of appropriate college level coursework.
  2. Results of a physical examination including laboratory tests and completion of required immunizations before actual clinical coursework can be started. In addition, there are specific technical standards for which all students must be capable. These standards specify skills necessary to participate in learning activities and professional practice.
  3. To meet standards enacted by national accrediting organizations and our local clinical affiliates, students will be required to submit to drug screening and criminal background checks prior to beginning clinical practice. Positive drug tests will result in dismissal from the course and program. In addition to screening , all students in clinical courses are subject to random and for-cause drug screens for the duration of their clinical practice.
