Rhodes State Announced Fall Community Education Classes

LIMA, Ohio, September 10, 2020 – Rhodes State College’s Division of Workforce Development and Innovation is launching its fall Community Education programing this month. The classes are meant to offer community members in the region opportunities for investigating a new hobby, advancing employment opportunities, or learning a new skill. Five new classes will be offered in September:

Thought You Knew the BREW and Smoothies, too? - September 15, 6:00-8:00 pm at the Meeting Place on Market (220 W. Market St., Lima) Instructor, Jennifer Brogee, Owner of the Meeting Place on Market. The cost is $39 which includes four different coffees and smoothie ingredients. Class Description: Taste test, anyone? You will EXPLORE the art of coffee brewing learning how to brew three different ways: Cold Brew, Pour-over and French Press. You will sample four different types of coffees and discover how to identify the subtle flavors in coffee-just like the professionals! Participants will engage in the preparation of healthy smoothie making while learning what ingredients make excellent combinations.

Wine Tasting & Learning - September 17, 6:00-8:00 pm at The MET (306 N. Main St., Lima) Instructor Rob Nelson, Owner of The MET. The cost is $59. Participants must be 21 years of age. In this class, participants can allow their taste buds to be transformed through exquisite wines paired with delectable food made by an executive chef. A description of each wine, based on taste, smell, and key facts will be given with each pairing.

Autumn Scarecrow Wreath Making - September 21, 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Rhodes State College. Instructor, Trisha Hager, Owner of Lima Wreath & Craft Company. The cost is $59 which includes all supplies to make this deco mesh creation. This will be an evening of creativity of making a scarecrow wreath with deco mesh ribbon.

Cricut Success: Insider Tricks & Tips - September 24 or September 29, 5:30-7:30 pm at Rhodes State College. Instructor, Stephanie Emerick, Owner and Founder of Bliss Made This. The cost is $29 which includes resource packet, tips and tricks to understand this new technology. This will review the Cricut cutter and what it can do including: the machine’s capabilities, software setup, share tricks, money saving tips and discuss next steps to building a profitable business from this trending hobby. Participants will leave with a resource packet of web-links, charts, supplier lists, and more.

Light & Shadow: Charcoal/Pastel Drawing - September 24, October 1, and October 8, 5:30-7:30 pm at Rhodes State College. Instructor, Gayle Mulder, Art Educator. The cost is $69 which includes 3-nights of instruction. Participants will discover the wonders of charcoal and pastel drawing using white on black and black on white while learning to focus on creating depth and dimension; and will work with still-life textures to complete designs.

In addition, new classes are coming out October through December with topics ranging from Health & Wellness, to Outdoors & Nature, Language & Literacy, Arts & Crafts and Computer Technology. Rhodes State College’s Continuing and Community Education Program is an extension of the mission to provide “life-long learning” to the community as participants learn new skills through interactive non-credit courses designed for hands-on, fun and educational memories.

Classes are open to the public. It is recommended that participants register early, as class size is limited in order to maintain proper safety protocols.
