Lima, OH – First year head coach Quincey Simpson guided the Barons men’s basketball team to a win/loss record of just one game under .500 overall and a #2 seed in the ORC Tournament, a vast improvement over the 2 & 27 record the previous season.
The2010-11 Barons (15-16, 10-5 ORCC) have many things to be proud of from this exciting season. The biggest win of the year was likely an upset of NCCAA power Oakland City College in double OT 68 to 67. Two Barons received Ohio Regional Campus Conference honors too as LeMar Pughsley and Keith Winn Jr., were both selected to the ORCC 1st Team Regular Season and the All ORC Tournament Team!
When asked his thoughts on the season, First year Head Coach Quincey Simpson or “Coach Q” as he prefers to be called had this to say, “The level of competition in the ORCC was better than I had expected. I was impressed by a lot of teams throughout the ORCC and now have a much better idea of what to expect in the future. We were a small team that had some size early in the season that we lsot due to some issues with grades and team policies. But, the guys that made it the whole way really got it and gave it a great effort. I mean, it felt like a very quick season, not long at all and I didn’t, we didn’t want it to end. I’m happy how we overcame so much this year losing all those guys early on. This year, my first at the college level was definitely fun for me and I think the guys had a lot of fun too.”
The future does look bright for the Barons as the majority of the members of this year’s squad are slated to return next season. However, that doesn’t mean that Coach Q isn’t going to be hitting the gyms in the Lima area and beyond in search of talented future Barons.
“I am looking forward to the offseason as our guys will be working hard at their studies first and foremost, then in addition to that they will have a detailed conditioning regimen of weights and skill work to improve in their specific areas of the game. Also, on the recruiting side I’m hoping to be able to bring in some more size next season as I learned that is something that you must have to compete in the ORC!”
We are now about seven and a half months away from the next installment of Barons men’s basketball. Several fans I’m sure are already counting the days.
