You should also be capable of understanding how welds are inspected and what type of quality acceptance criteria is associated with each type of weld. You should also be able to interpret commonly used welding symbols.

The course is competency-based, meaning your performance will not be compared to other students. There are multiple benefits to this learning style, including applying your current skills, focusing on acquiring new skills, reviewing content several times to ensure comprehension, and potentially progressing through the course in a quicker fashion.

The instructor will assess each student’s skill level. Coursework can be learned at your own pace and level.
The course outlines the following areas:
 Safety
 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) (commonly known as stick welding)
 Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) (commonly called MIG [Metal Inert Gas] welding)
 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) (commonly called TIG [Tungsten Inert Gas] welding)
 Welding symbols according to the American Welding Society
 Related welding quality inspection and criteria for acceptance
