Joseph Abbott
Ph.D Chair and Instructor, Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences

Spoken or not, management’s key role in the organization is to control the labor of employees with an eye toward increasing efficiency. In the early 1900s, Frederick Winslow Taylor devised an approach to achieve this goal by “deskilling,” dividing work into two separate parts: mental labor and manual labor. Today, Taylor’s ideas are very much alive. Join us as Dr. Abbott will discuss this timely topic and show how the process of deskilling has invaded the contemporary workplace.
