Assessment and Mandatory Placement

Students are assessed for their Reading and Math courses at Rhodes State College.  A student who meets one of the qualifications listed below will be waived from taking the ACCUPLACER exam.

Option One: High School GPA
A student who has graduated within the past 4 years and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher meets the Reading college ready requirements. 

A student who has graduated within the past 4 years and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a “B” or better in Algebra II meets the Math college ready requirements. 

current high school student who intends on taking College Credit Plus classes and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher meets the Reading college ready requirements.

current high school student who intends on taking College Credit Plus classes and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a “B” or better in Algebra II meets the Math college ready requirements. 

A student will need to send their official high school transcripts to the Rhodes State College Admissions Office (address below).

Option Two: ACT or SAT Scores within the last 4 years                                                                                

ACT scores with a sub score of 18 or higher in English or ACT scores with a sub score of 22 or higher in Reading will exempt a student from taking the Reading portion of the ACCUPLACER.

ACT scores with a sub score of 22 or higher in Math will exempt a student from taking the Math portion of the ACCUPLACER. 

SAT scores of 450 or higher in English will exempt a student from taking the Reading portion of the ACCUPLACER.

SAT scores of 520 or higher in Math will exempt a student from taking the Math portion of the ACCUPLACER.

A student will need to send their Official ACT or SAT scores within the last 4 years to the Rhodes State College Admissions Office (address below).

Option 3: Completion of a college level math or general education course

A student who has successfully completed a college level math or general education course (with a C or higher) meets certain college ready requirements.

A student will need to send an official college issued transcript to the Rhodes State College Records and Registration Office (address below).

Students who do not meet any of the criteria listed above will need to take the ACCUPLACER exam through the Rhodes State College Testing Center.  If you do not meet any of the above listed criteria and have applied to Rhodes State College please contact the Rhodes State College Testing Center to schedule your ACCUPLACER exam at 419-995-8476.

(COMPASS is currently used to assess students in Reading and Math at Rhodes State College.  Effective Fall 2016 COMPASS will be replaced with ACCUPLACER)
