Rich Text Format (RTF) Files

Since we don't all have the same word processing programs, word processed files must be saved and submitted in a file type that can be read by a variety of programs. This file type is Rich Text Format, often referred to as an RTF file. Complete the following procedure in your word processing program to save your file as an RTF file.

  1. Open your word processing file in the original program used to create the file.
  2. Click the File menu and choose Save As.

The dialog box shown below should appear on your screen.  The Save As Type box is below the file name box.  Click the list arrow to the right of Save As Type to locate the Rich Text Format (*.rtf) option.  Click this option to select it and click the Save button.
