Online courses allow students to learn in their own homes, at work, or on campus using a computer and the Internet. Online courses are often supplemented by textbook and/or other material suggested by the instructor.
Assignments may be emailed, faxed, or mailed to the instructor's office. Some online courses may still require proctored testing - either on campus or at a proctoring site near the student's location. Instructors of online courses are available by email, telephone, or during office hours on campus to assist students.
Students registering for an online course must have computer skills as described here.
An online student's home computer should meet the minimum computer requirements listed here.
If students do not have the requisite computer skills or access to a computer which meets the minimum configuration, then students should consider taking the course in the traditional format.
Some online courses have web cast lectures, which require the most current version of Window Media Player and Internet Explorer in order to view the lectures. It is strongly suggested that students have Internet service via cable modem or DST, in order to view the web casts. Other computer software programs such as Internet optimizer, pop up blockers, or personal firewalls can prevent viewing of the web casts.
Students are expected to finish online courses in one quarter, the quarter of registration. Online courses are designated as Section 90 in the quarterly class schedule. Not all online courses are offered every quarter. Check the current class schedule for availability.
