The Cover Letter

This is often the hardest part of developing job search correspondence. Once you have your resume done, you often do not want to struggle through a cover letter. Yet, this is an important aspect of your job search.

The cover letter (and other related correspondence) gives you the chance to enhance or expand your resume information. Your cover letter provides you the opportunity to show off your written communication skills.

Your future could rest on how well you write a cover letter. Be sure to visit with your Placement Director (PS 150) to review your drafts of your cover letters and job search correspondence.

We promise that after you get the first one done…the rest will get easier. But it is important that you take the time with your drafts so that they say exactly what you want to convey to a future employer.

You should know that cover letters do get read, and are often used as a source of info for interviews. Make sure you provide an honest and concise picture of your skills, abilities and interpersonal characteristics.
