Orientation

All new students are required to meet with an advisor prior to their first registration.  The best way to do this is by attending a new student orientation program.  Orientation programs are held before each quarter begins.  The orientations are designed to familiarize students with the personnel, facilities, and procedures of their program and the College as well as provide an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor and register for first quarter courses.

Notices of exact time and location of the orientation sessions will be mailed after application has been made to the College.

Transfer students are not required to attend an orientation but are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor.

Advanced Standing

James A. Rhodes State College recognizes the value of the educational experience provided by the area's secondary vocational programs and acknowledges that in some fields vocational students may acquire competencies and skills similar or identical to those attained in certain courses offered by the College.  Further opportunities exist through Tech Prep.  If you'd like to visit the West Central Ohio Tech Prep's Web Site, click here.

Beginning with the class as listed, graduates of the following joint vocational schools or high schools may apply for advanced standing without proficiency testing:

Apollo Career Center 1986
Lima Senior High School 1986
Millstream Career Center 1987
Ohio Hi Point J.V.S 1986
Tri Star Compact 1986
Upper Valley J.V.S 1987

To apply for advanced standing, vocational graduates must follow the procedures listed below:

  1. Complete the standard admission procedures and be accepted into a comparable associate degree program.
  2. After receiving notification of acceptance to the College, contact the Student Advising and Development Center and request and Advanced Standing Credit Evaluation form.
  3. Complete Section I of the form and take it to the career center guidance office for completion of Section II.
  4. The guidance office will mail the completed form to the Rhodes State Office of Transfer, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima, Ohio 45804, for further processing.

If advanced standing is to be granted for courses being taught during the applicant's first quarter on campus, all of the above steps must be completed prior to the period of registration for class.
