Office Of Admissions

James A. Rhodes State College is a state assisted institution, and therefore observes an "open door" admissions policy.  This means that any Ohio resident who graduates from an Ohio high school approved by the Department of Education or has the Ohio Certificate of High School Equivalence awarded on the basis of his/her performance in General Education Development (GED) test, will be admitted.  Admission to the College does not guarantee direct admission to a particular course or program.  Non-Ohio residents will also be admitted to the College under the "open door" admissions policy if they have graduated from an accredited high school or have a Certificate of High School Equivalence.

Rhodes State College admissions information and assistance is available in the Office of Admissions and Advising, Room 148 of the Public Service Building.  Representatives are available both day and evening hours by calling (419) 995-8320 for an appointment.

General Admissions Procedures

To apply to James A. Rhodes State College, prospective students must complete an application form available from the Office of Admissions and Advising or by downloading the form here!  This form should be completed and returned to the College along with payment of a $25 non-refundable application fee.  Each degree seeking applicant or certificate seeking applicant must arrange for a high school transcript to be sent to the College.  Applications having Certificate of High School Equivalence (GED) should present it to the Office of Admissions and Advising so that a copy can be retained.

An applicant transferring to James A. Rhodes State College from another college, university or any other type of post secondary institution, must request an official transcript be sent to Rhodes State College from each institution.

Finally, applicants to the College are required to take a COMPASS Placement Test and CAAP Test.  COMPASS and CAAP are scheduled and administered at the College.  If an applicant intends to major in a health program, the ACT is also required.  Admissions procedures apply to both full-time and part-time students.  (Transfer students may not be required to take placement tests.)

The $25 application fee is good for two years only.  If a student does not enroll and pay fees within two years after application, the $25 fee and all materials must be resubmitted.

Certain professions prohibit individuals with criminal records from practicing.  If a student has been convicted of a prior misdemeanor or felony, he/she should consult the Student Advising and Development Center for the appropriate referral for information concerning eligibility for professional licensure.
