The EHS Technology program at Rhodes State is a two-year associate's degree program designed to be both academic and skills-oriented. Some of the topics covered as part of this major include:

• Overview of the safety, health and environmental issues in the workplace
• Exploring the fundamental concepts of environmental laws, rules, and requirements
• Implementation of environmental policies, procedures and programs
• Investigation of the sampling procedures and techniques used in the environmental industry
• Exploring the fundamental concepts of occupational safety and health laws and regulation system
• Recognizing, evaluating and controlling safety and health hazards
• Understanding the basic fundamentals of chemistry and the risks associated with hazardous materials
• Training for site workers/operators and emergency responders
• Development of computer, communication, and presentation skills For those students who desire to receive their bachelor’s degree, Rhodes State in collaboration with several 4-year institutions, offers a way for students to achieve this through our 2+2 Program!

For the non-traditional student looking to enhance their technical skills, we also offer the following certificate programs which will apply to an associate’s degree in EHS Technology:

In order to address the concerns of conservation of natural resources, pollution prevention, public health, and the safety of individuals in the workplace the demand for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) professionals is growing!

In order to increase efficiency and improve performance while reducing environmental impacts and health and safety hazards, Environmental, Health, and Safety involves the application of technology to address issues such as:

• Hazardous waste clean-up
• Emissions and pollution prevention
• Ergonomics
• Industrial hygiene
• Workplace safety, etc.

Rhodes State College has gained accreditation from The Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60602-2504, (312) 263-0456 or www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org. The majority of Rhodes State’s programs have received accreditation from professional associations (see specific program information under “Accreditation” tab on other program pages).

Candidates for the Associate of Applied Science Degree must meet all curriculum requirements as outlined in the curriculum models with a GPA of at least 2.00 and a minimum of 90 credit hours to a maximum of 110 credit hours completed in the program area. Credits transferred from other institutions will be subject to evaluation on a course-by-course basis. In some instances, students who have been absent from the College for more than one regular quarter (excluding summer) may have technical credits which will be re-evaluated on an individual basis. Each program is designed with required technical courses, in which, students must maintain a 2.00 average or better to progress to graduation. To obtain divisional certificates, students must earn a grade of “C” or better on all listed courses or receive authorization from program chair and division dean.
