Environmental Health and Safety

The EHS Technology program at Rhodes State is a two-year associate's degree program designed to be both academic and skills-oriented. Some of the topics covered as part of this major include:

  • Overview of the safety, health and environmental issues in the workplace
  • Exploring the fundamental concepts of environmental laws, rules, and requirements
  • Implementation of environmental policies, procedures and programs
  • Investigation of the sampling procedures and techniques used in the environmental industry
  • Exploring the fundamental concepts of occupational safety and health laws and regulation system
  • Recognizing, evaluating and controlling safety and health hazards
  • Understanding the basic fundamentals of chemistry and the risks associated with hazardous materials
  • Training for site workers/operators and emergency responders
  • Development of computer, communication, and presentation skills For those students who desire to receive their bachelor’s degree, Rhodes State in collaboration with several 4-year institutions, offers a way for students to achieve this through our 2+2 Program!

For the non-traditional student looking to enhance their technical skills, we also offer the following certificate programs which will apply to an associate’s degree in EHS Technology:

  • Emergency Responder Certificate
  • Environmental Specialist Certificate
  • Safety Specialist Certificate
