As a result, people usually seek the help of real estate brokers and sales agents when buying or selling real estate. Real estate brokers and sales agents have a thorough knowledge of the real estate market in their community.

The coursework that comprise this certificate provide the students with the 120 hours of education required by the state prior to sitting for the Sales Real Estate License exam. These classes emphasize knowledge regarding the general theory of real estate, real estate laws, real estate finance and real estate appraisal that prospective real estate professionals must be familiar.

The Accounting and Finance program exists to engage students in meaningful student development and learning opportunities by ensuring access to the learning process in a variety of mediums that provide the student with the technical knowledge and general education skills necessary for a position in their career field as well as to instill the desire to seek out opportunities for life-long learning.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean annual earnings, including commissions, of salaried real estate sales agents for 2008 was $54,410--with the middle 50 percent earning between $27,390 and $64,820 a year.  Average employment growth is expected because of the increasing housing needs of a growing population, as well as the perception that real estate is a good investment.

The Real Estate Certification Program at Rhodes State College can be your first step toward many different career opportunities in real estate. Careers often associated with licensed real estate agents include: loan originators, appraisers, surveyors, and home inspectors.

Rhodes State College has gained accreditation from The Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60602-2504, (312) 263-0456 or www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org. The majority of Rhodes State’s programs have received accreditation from professional associations (see specific program information under “Accreditation” tab on other program pages).

In every State, real estate brokers and sales agents must be licensed. The Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing requires the following mandates to be licensed as a real estate agent in Ohio:

--You must be 18-years of age, you must be sponsored by an Ohio Broker,
--You must not have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude
--If you were born after 1950 you must have a high school diploma or its equivalent
--40-hours of classroom instruction in real estate principles and practices
--40-hours of classroom instruction in real estate law including instruction in civil rights, housing discrimination, and desegregation problems
--20-hours of classroom instruction in real estate appraisal, and
--20-hours of classroom instruction in real estate finance.
