The Associate of Science degree is designed for students who plan to transfer and complete a Bachelors of Science degree at a four-year institution. The degree requirements allow students more flexibility in course selection allowing them to focus on their discipline requirements.

Most coursework is in specified mathematics and sciences requirements, but also includes general requirements, and distribution requirements in humanities, social sciences and health or physical education.  In selecting courses for this degree, students are highly encouraged to consult the specific transfer curriculum pages in the College catalog, the faculty advisor, and the institution to which they intend to transfer to determine if it is an appropriate choice.

The Division of Arts & Sciences provides credit instruction in various general education disciplines. Responding to technological and pedagogical changes, we develop and deliver courses which maintain the standards of those disciplines and of the college. We challenge our students to examine their values and to acquire greater knowledge and professionalism.

The Associate of Science degree is designed for students who plan to transfer and complete a Bachelor of Science degree. Depending on the electives chosen, the AS prepares for further study in any of the following areas: business, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, information technology, criminal justice, mathematics, pre-education, pre-medicine, and other fields. Most coursework is in specified mathematics and sciences requirements, but also includes humanities, social sciences and composition/literature.

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools  granted Rhodes State College the approval to offer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees based upon a comprehensive site visit which took place between October 27-29, 2008.

The Associate of Science degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 90 quarter credit hours chosen from the list of identified transfer level courses. Three additional credit hours are required: SDE-101 (1 hr.) and the AS capstone course, BIO-282 (2 hrs.) meaning that a minimum of 93 quarter credit hours are required to obtain the degree. In addition, students must complete (at a minimum) the specified number of credit hours in each required distribution area.
