The Learning Center offers two student positions: Peer Tutor and Desk Assistant.  For both positions, students must have completed a FAFSA through the Financial Aid office (PS 150), and registered with College Central Network through the Career Services Office (PS 150). BECOME A PEER TUTOR

The goal of the peer tutor is to encourage students to develop skills, strategies, and attitudes necessary to reach their academic goals.  Peer tutors work with individuals or small groups in the Learning Center on an appointment and walk-in basis.  Peer tutors are also responsible for visiting courses each quarter to give tutoring information to students and working with instructors to maintain current knowledge about the course and subject.

Peer tutors must complete a training program within their first quarter of working in the Center, including an orientation session, two in-person training sessions, and two individual assignments. 

Requirements:

  • Grade of A or B in the course(s) you wish to tutor (course must have been taken within the past two years)

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA

  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per quarter (or 3 credit hours during Summer quarter)

  • 2 Letters of Recommendation (faculty and character)

  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Successful completion of  CPT 104 or  higher

BECOME A DESK ASSISTANT

Desk Assistants are responsible for interacting with all students, tutors, staff, and visitors to the Center.  They ensure all students log-in and log-out during their visit, take messages for staff members, make tutoring appointments for students, and complete basic clerical tasks such as answering phones, making copies, filing, and projects for staff members.

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Enrolled in six credit hours per quarter (or 3 credit hours during summer quarter)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and basic computer applications

  • Ability to attend mandatory trainings quarterly

  • Interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
